The Dwight Police Department has created a list of frequently asked questions and have the answers for you.

1.  If, I call the police.  How long will it take to get a police officer here?

The Dwight Police Department normally has one officer patrolling at a time.  Calls for service are prioritized by the  seriousness of the call.  Calls needing immediate response may involve injuries that require medical attention and crimes in progress.  Officers will be cleared from non-life threatening calls to respond to more serious crimes.  It is difficult to have to wait for an officer to respond, but the most serious incidents must be handled first.  there is an officer working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year so your call will be answered.

2.  when do I call 911?

The Dwight Police  Department recommends you only call 911 in the case of an emergency.  emergencies include: crimes in progress, medical assistance, fires.  If you need to speak to an officer for a non-emergency call we recommend you call LivCom at 844-0911 or 584-3132.

3.  If, I lock my keys in my car, can the police department assist me?

Yes, the Dwight Police Department still provides lock out services at no cost.  Dwight is a minority when it comes to providing this service.  We take pride in assisting those living and visiting our community.

4.  If my dog gets loose.  Who do I call?

The Dwight Police Department will assist in recovering your lost animal.  The Dwight Police Department will also ask for the Livingston County Animal Control Office to assist.  You many contact animal control yourself at (815)844-5200.

5. How much is bond?

All felony charges charges and domestic battery charges are non-bondable offenses.  These type offenses require the arrested individual to have bond set by a judge.  Misdemeanor offense bonds are normally $100.00.

6.  How do I get an order of protection?

The Livingston County States Attorney's Office assists domestic violence victims with this procedure.  You may contact the Livingston County States Attorney's Office at (815)844-5169.
